The character of Dr. Eldon Tyrell is
presented as a kind of deity figure who has the power of creating life, but unable to prevent death. In the original screenplay Ridley Scott
wanted this character as well as Deckard to be a replicant. During the
development of the original story-line the Tyrell Corporation megastructure building is actually a pyramid, and at the base of this is a cryogenic chamber which houses the body of the real Tyrell. The replicant Tyrell, by creating near human genetically engineered machines is also trying to discover a way to bring the real Tyrell back to life. Another variation had the
bones buried beneath the building protected by the mysteries of 'pyramid power'.

Who says that's the "entire theme". Is is the superficial layer of a deeper plot, with grander implications. But you are excused from the table if this sort of food is indigestible for you. Indeed, it cuts rather close to home doesn't it: Much of our so-called "humanity" are a bunch of over-glorified organic machines, fit to be re-engineered and culled at will, as the archons see fit. Who then can stand against them and meet their TRUE maker? Not those who can't stomach the Truth.

Good observation. It is an experiment within an experiment, an occult secret within an enigma. But he figures it out, doesn't he. And in that he shows what the real meaning of spiritual power is: when the false self identity is destroyed in a courageous facing of the Truth, then whatever survives is Real, and Immortal. That's what it means to "do a [real] man's job". The Watchers of this fake reality are separating the real from the fake... as we speak.

I think Olmos was indirectly letting him know he doesnt have much longer either.

no, when he says then again who does... he means all of us, that in the end replicants ans humans are all the same, in the end what was the difference between a replicant and a human? they looked alike, even had feelings, one had little strength that's all...

Deckert seems to be the butt of a cruel joke he doesnt know he is a part of. It is weird how the LAPD keeps tabs on where he is at all times to.

This and the ending where Deckard discorvers the unicorn shows he is a replicant. The book hinted at it, but there I don't think he is.

Too bad they never filmed that. It would have been a great adding to the movie.

Deckert is a replicant hate to break it to you. Edward James Olmos is the key to knowing this. When Olmos leaves a orogami of a unicorn which Deckart thought was a dream when in reality is what the robot sees when there brain/computer is rebooting. Olmos character knows this and leaves him the hint of the unicorn. Also when Olmos says to bad she wont live, but then again who does? He is telling Deckert your in the same situation as her. Yes Deckert is a replicant!

The scenery shots in itself tells the story a very bleak and dark world where humans cant control our own environment that we created. Its a batlle of what we have made, and how we are are not as good as our creations. So many angles to this movie, thats why I can see it 20 times and still be excited. Where movies like avatar seem like a theme ride at disneyland.

blade runner IS NOT dadoes. obviously br is based on dadoes but the book focuses on different themes than the movie does. different message using most of the same events. still, i agree with you that deckard and tyrell have to be human, in the interest of the story. deckard needs to be the viewer's "surrogate" in the movie for us to empathize with roy, rachael etc. and tyrell should at least be the person who explains to us what humans were thinking when the smartest minds created replicants

I dislike the idea that everyone and their brother is a replicant. The whole idea is that there are humans trying to control artificial life and it gets out of hand, like opening a pandora's box. Tyrell and even Deckard being a replicant destroys that entire theme.

Fallout New Vegas MrHouse was the same only he didn't control a body that looked like him not thaty advanced I guess or didn't want a robot version for remote control.
  16. John Reeves, at 01/07/2013 20:29, says:
But both he is human this version showed him controlling that body from inside the coffin computer like Mr House in fallout new vegas

This would've been too awesome. "Everybody you see in the movie is a replicant" - a mindblowing interpretation.

totally agree, except that Roy isn't an "android".

I prefer it as is. Better that Tyrell be human, has more emotional impact that way.

It gives the viewer credit for filling in the gaps. It's art when it does that.
  22. PungiFungi, at 10/15/2012 17:13, says:
I think the movie left this deliberately ambiguous, and a good thing too! Having that question answered definitively would ruin the entire movie. We don't need to know if he is a replicant, the fact that Deckard may be one is the entire point.
  23. nightowl8936, at 10/14/2012 16:45, says:
Absolutely billiant commentary and observation. This is true of all great artistic works.
  24. GregBumble, at 10/11/2012 18:02, says:
Deckard is not a replicant. If he was it would ruin the entire ending to the movie and the wonderful irony of the android having to explain what life means to a human. Deckard as a replicant destroys the meaning and revelation in Dick's work in favor of a cheap gimmick.
  25. FuckinLittleDreamer, at 10/09/2012 22:12, says:
squeeze his fuckin eyeballs xd ! btw. Did Batty know that Deckard is a replicant?
