I agree with you guys, Shakira cant keep on doing the same songs she was doing 20 years ago, she needs to do those fun songs because of her current status, she still has her brilliant lyrics tho, anyways what I like the most about Shakira is that she is like real smart and you can tell when you hear her speaking :D Have you heard Lo imprescindible?

There is definitely nothing "mainstream" about Shakira herself. Sure, she has made a couple mainstream songs, but that's just smart marketing on her part. Besides, it's cool to have a fun song every now and then! :) I'm sure it would get boring for her doing the same kinds of songs over and over again, also. Oh well, let people say what they want. She's been doing this professionally for about 23 years, so I'm sure she'll be fine. :D

It also annoys me when previous Shakira fans say they hate how mainstream Shakira has gotten. Shakira is one of those artists that are both loved and hated for the wrong reasons. They either love her because they heard the fun songs, but haven't heard all of them, or they hate her for that same reason reason. I've been a fan since like 2002 or so. I don't know if I have a favorite song, because I love all of them, but I listen to "Whenever, Wherever" a LOT, lol. I also love "Ojos Asi" I like the English version ("Eyes Like Yours") too, but I prefer the Spanish one.

It drives me crazy when I talk about her and someoen will say "Shakira? Really? All she sings about is being a wolf and the fact that her hips don't lie" and I explain that no, she is probably one of the greatest lyric writers that I know. Sure she has fun pop songs, but she also has a lot of meaning behind a lot of her songs. I don't speak Spanish (yet, anyway, though I plan to) but you can even feel the songs she sings. I brought this beautiful song in for Music Theory today! Everyone was so surprised - they only know her by "She Wolf" or "Hips Don't Lie". They didn't expect her wonderful voice and energy! It's strange how Shakira can be so well known and yet so underrated. Songs like these need more recognition!
