I haven't read the novel so I can't speak for that. Elements from Aliens have been used in the marketing campaigns for Prometheus, the inclusion of Yutani, colonial marines, terraforming, the company slogan, etc. He adopts Cameron's spelling for Weyland, the nods to Bishop, Yutani, Atmosphere Processors .Ridley has said that he respects ALIENS and disowns the rest of the franchise films. The flickering Blue lettering of the ad campaign was a nod to ALIENS. "David (Bishop), we are leaving!"

Ridley Scott, "there's a DNA of the very first Alien, but none of the subsequent films." you can find it on the prometheus imdb facts and a number of Interviews. I've seen it in at least 3 and no the planet is LV-426 in Alien. On the sites, description, and novelization.

Then why does he use the 'LV' pretext which was established in Aliens? Please post your source where he says this.

WRONGG No he doesn't. He says "Alien, but none of the subsequent" so no Aliens is NOT canon

the horror of it all is you can easily piece together the science behind the chestburster without much explanation or background into the movie- you immediatley begin to understand the parasitic theme of the facehugger/chestburster even when seeing it for the first time- you realize immediately "omg it planted that inside of him..", and are making your own discoveries to the science of the horror alongside with the crew who are also discovering what it is the same time the viewer is..

I really like Prometheus, I just totally understand how Ridley has basically completely opened up a whole new can of worms on the series. People shud stop ranting bout the film's holding bk answers, its really breathed much needed new life into the series now and at end of the day isnt that what we all (as fans) wanted anyway. And Prometheus actually does what very few sci-fi films do anyway, it has tried to blend, the themes of Science, Religion, Gods and Aliens/ETs all into 1 film.

I always thought that cus he uses the whole "LV" designation, code of the planetoids, and that was sumthing Cameron added to the series universe.

Yea, well put. I still love Prometheus but people need to stop seeing this as a movie is ruining a franchise or whatever. As you said, keep your initial ideas about alien, and enjoy prometheus nonetheless.

I've been trying to express that for a while, I just couldn't conjure up the words quite as beautifully.

I saw it at a drive-in when it came out in Mexico in 1980.

Haha shit! Thats a really good point.

He clearly counts Aliens as canon.

It was. And for this 12 year old at the time no less scary than the Exorcist.

I like Prometheus but I will still watch Alien with my own ideas which I have had since the 80's. I prefer the idea that the pilot was sitting there tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years and that it's race were long gone or died off. So obviously they would have had nothing to do with humanity whatsoever. I don't see why everything has to be linked back to humanity, it betrays the immensity of space. In this way Alien was truly 'Alien' in every sense, Prometheus lessens that.

You don't need a time machine, what you need is a dark room, a big screen digital TV, Alien on Blu-Ray and a spliff. lol.

Ridley, Giger, Mead. The future realised properly.
  19. Harold Hanra'ohanrahan, at 06/17/2012 05:16, says:
Alien and Prometheus being the only canon, its a shame the huge questions posed were tossed away by studio horror tropes. The first hour was beautiful, and Fassbenders David was the finest study of a being caught at odds with its desire to be human versus its awareness of its own superiority, all the time chanelled through Peter O'Toole.
  20. Harold Hanra'ohanrahan, at 06/17/2012 05:28, says:
The best there is. Im glad Prometheus was hated in some quarters. The good stuff is never universaly popular. Harry potter got 5 stars every film and that was aimed at fucking illiterates, written by an admittedly milfy populis broad-appeal shyster. Dan brown did well too, to tie in another fuckwit magnet.

1:26 Background noises. So this is where he got the idea for the music in the trailer.

Because movies as great as Alien aren't made anymore.

1:00 why don't audiences clap anymore?
  24. Browncoat Allywang, at 06/10/2012 02:43, says:
    yeah, this and star wars
