if you haven't found out in the past six months (from when you commented), it's because The Strokes' style overall sounds like it's directly influenced by Television; the dual guitars (one is flashy, the other more reserved), funky bass line, solid drums, and similar vocal style (although, Julian Casablancas sounds more like Chrissie Hynde; tired and lockjawed). I personally am bored by The Strokes, but I accept that they certainly were influenced by Television, who were fantastic.
