Shows the inside of the IMAX Projector and how it works. This model looks much more compact than other models. It is probably a new design.

Note that most IMAX theaters popping up in recent years use IMAX digital projector. No film is involved, hence the film handling part of this video does not apply in those situations. Digital IMAX movies are transported by multi-giga byte computer hard disk.

IMAX 3D uses linear polarization. Tilt your head and the 3D effect is screwed up. Newer Real-D 3D solved that problem. Compare them by watching http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0%2C32068%2C75184978001_1976624%2C00.html

@cplai.... Yea. But my point is that technology moves so fast, I wouldn't doubt that those projectors will be a 1/4 of the size they are today.

Both IMAX and 3D has been around for like 50+ years. Both had their ups and downs. Film projector will go away, but shooting movies in film will still has its following for years to come. Many 70 years old movies are still being digitally remastered for BluRay releases, and/or preserved in 4K or 8K sampling, that is possible because the master copies were shot in film.

02:07 I thought the guy was gonna go "oh shit I forgot to screw it in" when they turned it over and the lens crashed onto the floor.

IMAX Digital cannot truthfully be called IMAX. The best current digital projectors are 4096x2048 pixels (4K), IMAX film is approximately 10000x8000 pixels. Not even an 8K digital projector can match IMAX film.

Imax Corporation no longer states: THE IMAX EXPERIANCE. Imax Digital use two 4K Projectors, interlaced! 15/70 IMAX film was the best large format projection quality for 2D-3D films. Digital Cinema immulates 24fps film. 'Ever get the feeling your being cheated?"

This video shows how they mount the IMAX film on the projector, so this is obviously not about IMAX digital because digital projection do not use film.

    15/70 Imax or imax digital?

Exactly...i think that also a 2x4k projection has still a lower quality than a 15/70mm projection...

If for some reasons you want to watch John Carter again, then watch the 3D version this time and ask yourself whether you experienced the same movie differently. If not, then you can save a few bucks for each movie from now on.

It is different experience to different individual. Some found 3D movie more realistic. Some found it nauseating. If you have not seen one before, try it at least once to see if you would get hooked.

i'm going to watch John Carter today, and i was just wondering weather it would be worth watching it in IMAX 3D. Is it worth it?

In my opinion film is still better than digital. I do not mean only movies, but also pictures. If you have a (very) good 35mm Photographic film (or even more like 70mm) you can easily beat the quality of digital (film) cameras. Beside it is more exciting to see a "real film" in cinema instead of any digital stuff which is called today a "film"
