Boo whoever you are. read the literature. The amount of mercury used today is very little. Amalgam is indicated in certain procedures. Still, composite is not as good but is far more aesthetic.

From the ADA: "While questions have arisen about the safety of dental amalgam relating to its mercury content, the major U.S. and international scientific and health bodies, including the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Public Health Service, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization, among others have been satisfied that dental amalgam is a safe, reliable and effective restorative material."

hi dental student a friendly comment from a dentist is that your deans are poisoning you with mercury if they are teaching you to use dental amalgam. See my 'Letter to the Deans' to get a bigger picture of the abuse foisted on dental personnel by the so called leaders of our profession. Mercury, the third most toxic substance known, is continually released from amalgam and causes MASSIVE exposure to all dental personnel. You can save your life and that of your colleagues Regards Robert

dental school is hell, seriously. I would quit but I am drowned in debt and have been working for 3.5 years with absolutely no reward or personal gain. I would advise anybody considering studying dentistry not to - if you are bright enough to be accepted you are bright enough to make a better living in a better career.

it would be nice if patients would gather information about the procedure they're requesting before assuming the desired procedure can be done in one day :)

All that's missing is a grumpy old professor that tells you to write a medical consultation and to not do anything with the patient until they come back with a response.
