- Why are you two arguing about something like this?I'm not intending to get into the conversation and start talking about the Lightning's climb rate, but even if it can climb higher, so what, WW2 fighters are also more agile than '70s/'80s fighters, so, where's the problem?A F-15 could easily down a Lightning anyway before it could prove its superiority in climbing. Small tip: Your conversation partner does not really accept anything, so, just saying, you're fighting a pointless war.
- Sorry you are so confused, the Lighning is 0.78 at full combat load, the F 15 is 0.73 at 55,000 lbs, at max take off weight it is only 0.58. Lightly loaded both will fly vertical at an airshow. If you take your Ft/min time for the Lightning from Wikipedia try again, they made a big mistake, try stating the real facts, read a bit more and learn
- Daydreaming? The special one was bult to launch NASA research projects because it enabled the F-15 to fly higher when climbing at a high degree angle. A normal production P&W 1500 is a P&W 1500. You are in denial. The Lightning barely reaches thrust over weight on full afterburners, empty weight. It's dry ratio is 0.78. The Eagle maintains its high thrust over weight just on dry cruise power, empty weight. I am not being unfair to either, just stating the facts that people like you love to deny.

- If you like to compare a special F 15 which was used to set records, however the normal F 15 which is quite a hot combat aircraft, the engines give about 40,000 lbs thrust and combat weight 55,000 lbs, therefore 0.73. The Lightning engines give 32,600 and full combat weight 41,700 = 0.78. with full load the F 15 and Lightning will not go vertical, but without weapons or maximum fuel both will, just the Lightning will get there before the F 15. The Typhoon fully loaded = 0.8.
- Oops, sorry about the last reply, there's one mistake: turns out, the F-15 climbs 30,000 ft. faster than the Lightning. So in other words, blown out of the water to another planet.
- Actually, the F-15 climbs 10,000 ft. faster than the Lightning. Also the Lighting does not give thrust over weight, in fact, it is far from it (0.78), therefore cannot climb vertically, disproving what you said earlier. Yes, the Typhoon produces a 0.02 higher thrust to weight ratio than the Eagle, but remember, the Typhoon is slightly smaller and much lighter than the F-15. The Eagle's P&W 1500's are more poweful engines in all.

- Not so, the English Electric Lightning would climb slightly faster than the F 15, not widely publicised, let the Americans have the glory. The Eurofighter Typhoon also has a better thrust to weight ratio.

- Nope. It would be accounted for. The F-15 still holds all climbing/thrust world records. Not to mention the world's only undefeated fighter record. (104 wins- 0 losses)
