As for best fast surface player ever, especially on grass,Pete is by far my number one,and okey, anyone can have his own opinion.

Djokovic already 3, and Nadal over Sampras?????Federer,Pete,Laver,Borg are the greatest by my opinion, lets see Nadal and Nole career ending and speak after.

It is so clear how much tennis changed when young sampras came on compared to the greats that he beat on his way to his first grand slam, Muster, Lendl,Mcenroe and aggasi in the final. His power it's just so obvious that he just got better and better till he retires in 2002, I miss sampras and his style.

lol i play tennis regularly, and have been following tennis since 2000. all the surfaces are around the same speed, and ball bounce height (except for clay's higher bounce). there's basically no difference between the grass at wimbledon and the courts at Rod Laver arena. the surfaces were night and day in the 90's and back. try learning a thing or two before posting

all surfaces play almost the exact same, and have been like that since federer started racking up titles

I agree. Federer at his best is the most perfect tennis player with consistency on all surfaces.

    Mcenroe master of touch.

its all perspective. These points are so short that 75% of the match is waiting for points to start. I prefer watching "boring" rallies than serve and volley but its opinion.

Was last Australian Open final (Djoko vs Murray) better than this? No way, it was so boring!

I love the way McEnroe upsets the line woman for a call in the second set and then she calls out an ace by Sampras a few points later.....such a competitor Mcenroe you can see he is almost snarling in between points....but Sampras was too young and strong for Mc...and yes due to equipment they seem to play another sport compared to Novak Djokovic or Murray ...whose ball travels two times faster..

    Nadal.

Evidently you have never hit the wilson t-2000. My opponents would routinely pick 3 of 4 serves out of the back fence around the 5 foot high mark. My 6.1 95 hits about 20mph slower in the overhead game.
  21. Frankie Bergeron, at 01/09/2013 13:58, says:
I would disagree. I've never seen better than Fed at his best.

Ranking all time by tennis level point of view and opponents: 1 IceBorg 1980 2 McEnroe 1984 3 Sampras 1999 4 Nadal 2010 5 Federer 2007 6 Connors 1982 7 Lendl 1987 8 Agassi 1999 The highest tennis level was reached during Master 1980 final, when King jorn destroyed Lendl, transformed in a sparring partner : 6/4 6/2 6/2. IceBorg was invincible in that occasion; every no 1 of the era open would have had the same end of Lendl. Bjorn Borg was like a god

Goes to show how great McEnroe was - twilight of his career and losing out to future #1 player in Sampras.....similar to how Fed took out Pete exactly 10 years later. It's sad how current fans in Sports always think their current generation is the best... the greats of tennis would be great no matter what generation they are in OR what equipment they use. They ADAPT. That's what separates them
  24. randalph, at 01/04/2013 02:50, says:
yeah, Sampras so much behind todays top players...lol...you're pretty clueless.
  25. jerrydecaire1, at 01/02/2013 18:25, says:
that was mostly due to the equipment. I am certain of this after having watched two vids: 1) Agassi playing Connors way back when (even Agassi was playing slow balls against Connors due to the equipment-how do we know this? 2) The match of Agassi against Federer where Agassi was slamming cannon shots no less than Federer. So the person is the same but the pace very different depending on the equipment and the times.
