I think the Optical engine is dying in my Mitsubishi WD-62927. This was a $5,000+ TV just 3 years ago, and now needs a $1,000 repair. I won't be buying another Mitsubishi.

Its the sensor on the color wheel.email me at bradc at rtmc dot net for the fix. Just a sensor telling the color wheel to do crazy things from the heat of the lamp.

I got an 82 inch and think it's fantastic. I think they reworked some things on this more recent model as I haven't had a problem yet at about 2 years. It's bright, clear, sharp and feels like I'm looking through a window. Of course anything can happen, but so far so good. I think a lot of problems are caused by heat and dust build up. As said below, keep it cool and ventilated.

@GEMINITEN: IT WORKED THANKS! I took the back off the set & the fan looked like it was growing a beard. I cleaned all the fans & pulled the heat sink off the dmd chip. The sink was covered with dust so I cleaned it & cleaned off the old paste on the chip. Added Arctic Silver 5 & also decided to clean the color wheel. It had a film of some sort on it. I added lube to the wheel motor using Precision Lubricator also from Radio Shack. Problem fixed. Stunning Picture quality now. U Da Man!

@emfarfan if you look in the back where you would replace the bulb...there should be 8-12 screws to take the whole back panel off..its just the panel not the whole back..itll give you access to things such as light assembly, digital board, fans...etc. If you google your dlp model # with service manual after the # youll be able to get what your looking for....after getting it fixed keep the back of the tv 4"-6"inchs away from the wall for cooling and air circulation.

Hey, I've noticed that if I place a small fan behind my set, the problem seems to go away. Without the fan on, I can view for about 2hrs and it happens like clockwork. Do you think it could be dusty clogged fans or is it a failing part as others have suggested. I cannot find a manual that shows me where the fans are to clean them, guess I could just start taking things apart around the lamp, would that be the general area?

Hmm not to flame on this page...but have you guys maintained the dlp...clean it out so it doesnt have dust on all fans...taken the heat sink off the dmd chip and cleand off the old paste and repasting with artic silver 5....its not hard to pull the whole light assembly off and taking the fans out and cleaning them with a brush...if you get it up and running again clean it every 3 months...then reapply paste every 2-3 years

I tried the part (sharp), it didn't work. the motor speeds up and die then I get a lamp problem indication error 34. I put the old part back now it wont even give me a picture. this guy sucked. If your mitsu Bull Sheez starts doing this picture, take it to the back yard and use it for target practice. It will keep the pellets inside and you get glass shatter sound fx too.

I have a WD73732 with same problem. Picture goes bad after about 1 hour. Traced it to a bad sensor on the color wheel. Cool the sensor, picture straightens out. A Sharp GP2S24J0000F sensor might work as a replacement. Haven't tested it yet. 90 cents at Digikey. Color wheel housing needs to be cooled better. Also, add computer fan to back cover of set to help cool insides better. Be careful with color wheel. Glass panels are delicate.
