Like I said, the music is very good; I just can't past the singing. Maybe that's a reason they never made the big time?

Tom Verlaine's voice grows on you. I hated it at first, too. Keep listening, after a while, you like it. Also, this album was released in 1977, so it's a little late to "Ditch this pretentious-sounding singer".

I think music really topped out before 1990, just new gadgets and new dope, we got powdered fentanyl on our streets now (Wow) strokes who are they? lol

Television are more talented than the Ramones, however I prefer the Ramones....

Early on. One of three reasons is usually given for his firing: his erratic playing, his erratic behaviour, or his inability to play his part in "Marquee Moon".

I remember the first time I listened to this album on headphones in a record shop (must have been '77) - sheer magic! For me, it's certainly a seminal album. Not long afterwards, I saw them playing Birmingham (UK) Odeon supported by - Blondie! Part of Television's encore was a great version of Satisfaction.

Oh, I read that somewhere ;-) Thought it was a pretty great comparison. I love the "Aja" album and somewhere beind all that perfect polished control-freaked out (and yeah, real beautiful) sound I hear ressemblances... Like the way Tom Verlaine was really inspired by jazz in his guitar playing. Especially the solo in "Aja", the title track, is quite Verlaine-ish. The 2 albums came out the same year didn't they? I'm not too sure Television were fans of Steely Dan though.... :-) And vice versa.

Wow! What a perfect song. This must have been complete slap in the face in '77 when it came out!!!

"Punk music's answer to Steely Dan? I like that. This time era when punk was being blurred with art rock is incredibly interesting to me. The stuff that Patti Smith was doing, as well as Brian Eno and Bowie, and then Talking Heads after that. Gang Of Four. Very awesome time for alternative music.

If Richard Hell had stayed in Television this band would have been the Sex pistols of america. It's a shame Verlaine and him had a falling out.
