PlayStation 3D Display Black Screen Defect

I bought a Sony PlayStation 3D Display at BestBuy after I was looking for a 3D HDTV for gaming. I was not aware that PlayStation made a display until one of the employees at the store recommended it to me and told me it was on sale. The display came with a pair of 3d glasses as well as Motor Storm Apocalypse for the price of $299.

After hours and even days of use, I came across an issue that appears to be common among many people using the same 3D display. The screen randomly blacks out and the sound goes out as well for a few seconds. At first I thought it was normal until it started to happen more often. After some internet research I found out that it was a defect that this specific units have from the manufacturer.

I went back to BestBuy within a month of use and I was able to replace the unit and take advantage of a bundle sale in which this time it included the same box content as the first time as well as an extra pair of 3D glasses worth $70 dollars and MLB 2012 The Show worth $60 dollars for the same price of $299.

The problem is that I still experience this black screen after replacement so I decided to randomly record my screen an voila! I caught it on video. I have an extended 2 year warranty with BestBuy but I am getting tired of replacing this defective item over and over.

This link contains the PlayStation Community Forum Thread to this issue. This is over 60 pages long and explains the testimonials of people who have experienced this problem. Sony knows about this problem, they just don't want to admit it is a unit malefaction.

We need to create products not made in China, but if we did that TV would cost 5000 dollars

I know what the problem is. Well I'm 99% sure because I had a similar issue with a Samsung display and the quickfix (lowering the backlight and/or brightness) is the same. The issue comes from one or more capacitors on the electric board inside the display. I'm pretty sure that if u look at the capacitors, you'll see at least one has its top "busted". The capacitor then repeatedly "flushes out" (blackscreen) when backlight and brightness is high. You bet those capacitors are from CHINA ! :-)

This Monitor is a piece of shit. I'm so pissed off. I spent an extra $100 because its Sony. Monitor keeps blanking out every 40 minutes. Its NOT the HDMI cable. I've tried 3 from 3 different sources. All you guys saying its the cable, its not, the monitor comes with its own cable. If it doesn't work with that, then there is still a problem on Sony's end. This should NOT happen with the PS3 its self. It does. every site that rated this over 2 stars should be boycotted.

ITS THE HDMI CABLE!!! Try getting one with a gold connector. This actually can happen with a variety of TVs. Especially if there's a delay in the image and if that happened the TV can actually power down and say no signal and you will just have to turn your TV back on. It could also be the disk. I wouldn't jump to conclutions.

That is not quite true. It could happen within 5 minutes of turning on my console. Plus isnt this display for gaming? Sony knows that most gamers dont game for less than an hour unless you are a child supervised by a parent.

It happened to me using my playstation with the hdmi provided with the tv, my xbox 360 using a new hdmi cable, and to my wii using component connection.

No, I came to realize that it isnt the hdmi. The same problem occurred to me using another hdmi with my xbox 360, and to my wii using the component cable. All on the same display.

The black screen happened to me straight out of the box within 5 minutes of playing Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom. It started out as something that happened every once in awhile and then it progressed. Later on it started throwing tiny green horizontal lines across the screen. I've sent it back 3 different times since last Christmas so far.

I've the same problem with my sony 3d tv. I called ps support and they blame my ps3. They said that is my ps3 freezin. they told me to check the file systems because i might be corrupted. Indeed it was but that didnt fix my problem. I just bought another sony 3d tv just to check if the tv is the issue here.
