I created this video for those folks who have purchased a Samsung HDTV and have been experiencing the power on power off cycle problem. If your television turns itself on and off and does so on its own you have a problem. I hope this information will help you to fix the television.

Ur welcome Mike, however, when you look at the settlement Samsung has worked out we all get the shaft. The average value they give us is no more than $380 bucks. If we are lucky, the capacitor repair will work for two years...barely the length of the warranty extension they gave us. No, Samsung just wants this to all go away so they can concentrate on mobile phones and electronic pads. Why the american consumer won't fight is beyond me. We all got screwed.

Thank you for this video. I wish that more people will join and vote with their legs... and not buy Samsung. This company is evil and there is no place for this company to do business in the US. This is not the customer service and quality that the US market is expecting.

James, that is possible but so far, almost every Samsung television has been suffering from the underpowered, poorly made capacitors mostly in the 2007-2008 timeframe. What concerns me are the poor folks who purchased sets up to two years after the sets were made, meaning the warranty has expired and the monster is yet to rear its ugly head. Does not matter what size screen..they all appear to have this disease and Samsung wants it all to go away. Thanks for your info.

if its ok for a while then fails it could be a dry joint ie loose solder connection

spress15. One of the problems with the set turning itself off and on is that your television, which is actually a big computer monitor can corrupt the mother board. What is the exact type of television you have, what year was it made, and what year did you purchased it in? Another thing you should do is NOT accept Samsungs initial refusal to repair. Keep calling and tell them their answer is unacceptable. Eventually you will talk to a Senior Customer Rep and the story may change.

Well I called Samsung and my model is not covered under that Class Action Settlement. But it is intermittently turning itself off and then can't show a picture. If I unplug it for a while, then plug it in again, it works for a while, but the problem keeps happening. Is there another Class Action underway? Anyone know?
  7. nvdwarriorLtc, at 05/24/2013 17:27, says:
spress15 you are correct, the Settlement was reached. However, the downside to every settlement, a lot of money goes to the lawyers and we all end up with approximately $350 in either repairs or, if you cut the plug off and mail them the serial number, a check. Samsung appears to be sending repair teams to do the capacitors. The bad news, if the capacitors corrupted the mother board....you have to pay for that! Ugly. Good luck.

Thanks! I see the class action suit achieved a Settlement. Everyone should check out Samsung's website or just google to find the details of the Settlement. I'll be calling Samsung to get this taken care of. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely. Samsung is really trying to get this 10000 pound monkey off of its back and has been repairing machines that have expired warranty dates. Call them and keep asking to talk to the Senior or Executive Consumer Representatives about this. Eventually, one of them will realize that YOU are serious and won't give up. Then they will sent a maintenance person to replace your capacitors. Keep punching...its hard to make a donkey move.

Hi, just wanted to give you guys an update. The tech came and he told me that my problem was the CPU gave out. I had a quad-core cpu. The new smart tv model. However, when I looked at the actual board it shows 2 cpu's with 2 heatsinks. I assume they're using 2 dual-core cpus to make it quad-core which is false advertising. Anyways he suspects a faulty cpu. So the guy actually checked the powerboard and everything looked fine. He ended up replacing the main board. They're going to send ours back.
  14. tony manko, at 05/02/2013 06:55, says:
I will update you guys on what happens. I just hope you're wrong. I think they should be liable even if I left it on and it damaged the board. I mean they cannot expect the users to know when they run into these problems on what to do. I am sure at least for me since the tv I got is very brand new. They have to be liable and since it looks like most models are having the same issues.

I don't think it's the motherboard itself. I personally think a diode is actually failing and is the cause of the capacitors to fail. I don't think the capacitors are faulty. It's their diodes that normally causes the capacitors to burn or bulge and not work properly. So, I am expecting they will replace my power board. If it's the board itself. I am sure I be paying out at least $800 for the board. Since ours is a smart tv and it's a quad core cpu it uses. Thanks for letting me know.

I hope that isn't the case. I kept it on because others online told me to leave it on for an hour. They said if it fixes itself then something is loose but if it still continues then it's the capacitors. I hope no damage occurred. If Samsung won't pay for the repairs we will sue them. Since our TV wasn't that old. It only worked for 2 weeks. This model itself Came out in March of 2013.

So far don't like their repair man service. So far almost a week went by and the repair shop keeps delaying the repairs. They will call us tomorrow. They told us they will come repair it on Thursday. However, they said this last Thursday but said this tuesday they will fix it. We had to call them on tuesday and have them tell us that they're booked and that they will call us on Thursday. We get a call today that is automated asking us to press 1 if we still need repair service.

Tony, one more thing. If you have continued trying to turn the set on once this power on power off thing starts occurring, it will damage your mother board. Samsung WILL blame you for doing this and will NOT pay for the repair. When their guy comes to your house he will warn you that he will ONLLY replace the caps. He replaces them, leaves your house and wham it starts again...its your motherboard corrupted by the bad caps. Good luck

Samsung rendered my repair to be labeled as Quality/ Trouble/Power/Automatically turned on, turned off repeatedly. I just hope I don't get the run arounds like you have been given. I hope it's just a capacitor problem. Fingers crossed!! What I am experiencing and we only have this tv for 2 weeks and it's brand new. Just came out to the Market this March. It was in the las vegas electronics show for 2013. The tv keeps turning on and off repeatedly. You have to use the remote to turn it off.
  22. tony manko, at 04/26/2013 03:21, says:
Thanks for the information. I didn't know about the warranty. Yet, I do know I have 1 year warranty I verified this with Samsung and it's because this model that I bought just came to market in March. It's one of those smart new tv's for 2013. I knew it had to be under 1 year warranty.
  23. tony manko, at 04/26/2013 03:14, says:
I myself am a electronics guru and do know computer programming. I suspect my issue is that infamous 2 capacitors issue. I have a hunch they will replace my power supply board. I can do this myself but don't feel like messing around since we have 1 year warranty. I would rather use it then do something that will result to have an invalid warranty.

Samsung and the small tv repair business both tell me something different. Samsung said they shipped the parts and it takes 3 business days which is this tuesday. This is what they told me yesterday. Today called the repair people. They told me that they don't have the parts and said they just ordered them today. Then told me that they will call us on tuesday for servicing if they get the parts in time.
  25. tony manko, at 04/26/2013 03:38, says:
I checked the manufacture date and found out it was built on march 28th 2013. We ordered it on March 28 2013. However, the online retailer gave us the run arounds which we thought we got scammed. However, turned out we had to wait 2 weeks for them to ship everything and they kept saying they have it in warehouse but just found out they never did. It was a drop shipping business. So it was built in mexico and shipped to us.
