I doubt 150 Watts of solar power from molecular car paint will put the gas companies out of business...

Nope the guy said silicon in there not silicone

Soon they'll make it to the molecular level , apply it to car's paint and bye bye fuel pumps...

You're talking about silicone* not silicon.

whats the efficiency ? does it compare to regular solar cells in the market today?

You do have a point. The point I was getting at though, was to do with the conventional applications of solar pannels, eg. for households, and the industry. In these cases I'm sure you would rarely need a partially transparent solar pannel. You would only really need one if you had a big area of glass that is in direct sunlight, and I you had no wall/roof space left. That's not to say that there are no applications for this. You could use it in the place of tinted glass, for example.

That's the whole point of it though...There are solar panels that are more efficient at converting light into eletrical energy, but you can't see through those. These sphelar cells are exciting because if you use them in windows, you would have a two for one deal-a window you can see through and a power generator. In other words it doesn't matter what it CAN'T do because other solar panels can do what it can't, what's important is what it CAN do.

Ok, now this is something that is very useful, I wonder what the electricity output is per Square foot. If It's inexpensive you could coat this on buildings no problem, as well as on vehicles.

This is cool and it appears to be quite efficient for it's particular application. However, I think it's application has been limited due to it's characteristics: This design of solar panel would only be useful in cases where it is important that some light does go through the panel, but in most other cases, where the aim is to have no reflected(or refracted) light, and to maximize light collection, it would be useless. Still, many people will be happy that such a design now exists.
