In an IMAX theatre, the sound is so powerful you can feel it. To demonstrate this power, this video clip shows IMAXs sub-bass loudspeakers moving enough air to extinguish candles!

IMAXs digital audio system features proprietary loudspeaker technology with five discrete audio channels. The system enables the audience to pinpoint the specific location of each sound. In addition to the five channels, there are also multiplesub-bass loudspeakers, as seen in this video.

Its cool how the rising smoke continues to move with the sound waves all the way up.

my little 6'' sub can do this if I just put the candle next to the port.. nothing spectacular about that.

"Okay lets try 24Hz it blew out (LOL at this rate I'm, going to be out of matches before I'm out of candles) I need to pop out in jiffy to buy a few boxes or lighter. 5Hz it blew out 20Hz it blew out at -8db Now since low frequency sine wave tones, for the two subs is patched though the audio mixer I could be slightly off the mark. I need to patch the lead direct to AVR... Okay 20Hz at -21db the candle flame blew out at 4"." So a simple sine wave will have the same effect.

I've ran a battery of test using sine wave tones on my sub. Quote from my post over at LHF site "I tried a sine wave at 23Hz and increased level to -3db the flame blew out. (Sooty DOWN!) Sooty is showing curiosity of the test I'm doing. I'll make a video later on but I can't get the webcam where I want it to be unless I have an USB extension cable for it, so I'd have to aim the camera from the far end looking across the room."

LOL Somehow I doubt that. You have any clue how large they are! You wouldn't have enough room to swing a cat around once you fit all those in your room.

Any good fair sub would do that at the same distance demonstrated in the IMAX video. The distance appears to be 1 foot or less from the port opening. I tried this with "Die Hard 4" several years ago. I might re-do it with a few film or try a few sine wave tones.

That't doesn't surprise since air flow from the ports with sine wave would do the same thing. Plus the fact is the tone wouldn't be cantered on 23Hz there would be some 20 21 22 24 25 26 and so. Also the airflow would take several seconds to reach first row audience after the sound airflow has occurred. If you naturally blew from 10 feet away the blow would be so narrow and it would still take several seconds before reaching a candle and watching the flame wobble.
