Because even after you graduate you'll be making $15 per hour anyway. (or less, or unemployment) There's no jobs anywhere anymore. Or, best case scenario you'll get a $50k per year gig right out of law school, but you'll be at least $120k in debt, more likely $200k, not to mention the opportunity cost of not having had an income for 3 years. It just doesn't make sense financially. Mind you I'm a law student myself but I consider the whole thing a mistake.

Why is it a terrible mistake to attend law school if you make more that $15 per hour? If you could elaborate on this, I would be very grateful.

Why the hell would you quit any decent job to go to law school? Law school has made me envy people that work at McDonalds. If you made more than $15/hr and quit to go to law school you made a terrible mistake.

Do you have a job lined up now, lawdawg? You mentioned that you had no worries about finding a good job. How do you feel now, that you are getting ready to graduate from this fourth tier piece of trash?! Tution and fees - for the 2010-2011 school year - amount to $36,800!! Hopefully, your selfish, foolish early midlife crisis does not hurt your family. There are too many lawyers in this country, idiot.

I'm with you, man. I'm 29, support my g/f of 3 years, and am living off of my savings from a job that paid well, but I hated. Well, let's hope all this is worth it. Starting my 2nd semester of 1L a few weeks ago, and am finding laziness and apathy setting in. Keep your head up, and stay tough.

Wow! I'm 37 and I plan to go to law school when I finish my undergrad. I have a family as well, and I really do understand how you feel. Best wishes to you and your success in school.

I am a 2nd year at a top 5 law school and my sincere advice is to really know if you want to go to law school. You end up paying 50K a year for tuition and living expenses. So, after the first year, if you hate it like I do, you're stuck getting knee deep in debt in a school you hate for a field you cant stand. I am moving back home after graduation, paying off debts within 2-3 years and likely switching to part time while I seek a better profession.

Thx Briguy---- LiptonGuy Most of the tenured prof's are out of touch with being a practicing atty--the adjuncts is where you will get the best info-- Forget about the "top schools" myth-- there are jobs out there for people with work experience like myself regardless of the school we go to. I am going to Valparaiso which is a tier 4 and I am not having any worries about finding a good job. Feel free to ask any questions b/c I had no one to talk to about this -- I just did it.

Hang in there...or think about ending it. Remember, when you graduate, you'll probably be spending 80 hours a week working when you'd rather be with your kids.
