Anyone doubting Mick Taylor's credentials should refer to his recordings with John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers, when he was 17 years old. Startling!

Yes, only based on the respective players' style and obvious audible evidence. Other than that, worthless. Putz.

    such a clueless, worthless comment.

but if you read about the Stones, the 2 biggest reasons was repeated selfishness by the Glimmer Twins of only giving MT 2 songwriting credits his whole time. & Keith was way too abrasive and bitched at him unmercifully. Keith told Mick to his face he was good in concert but utterly "worthless in the studio".

I think you have a good point. Taylor did upstage the rest of the band. I think that was on Jagger's mind quite a bit. I agree with olwltd that Ron Wood is the perfect guitarist for The Rolling Stones. He fits perfectly. Mick Taylor was too polished a musician for the stones. Not that the Stones aren't talented, but they're not in Taylor's league.

I could'nt agree more. He replaced Eric Clapton in the John Mayall band at the age of 19 ! Obviously something that not many young guitarists could do. Cheers, W. Johnson

Taylor an overbusy, repititious noodler. Keith knows it isn't how many notes you cram into the solo, it's the feel you give.

Keith is far from amazing. Don't get me wrong he's a good song writer & a decent guitarist but not even close to Mick Taylor. Ronnie is a good guitarist , but again not in Taylor's league. As for leaving the Stones, I think it was more about him not getting credit for songs he had written, & not having the chance to express himself the way he would like. I think he was right to leave the stones.

You are insane. The guitarist whose sound identifies the Rolling Stones is Keith Richards. His 5 string open G tunings gives the Stones their sound. Mick's contribution holds up the other end with Charlie in the middle. Mick Taylor is a brilliant blues guitarist but with or without him they're still the Stones. Ron wood adds his special sound too but it's more than just dexterity. Taylor was restricted by the Stones he needed his own combo BUT the Stones didn't need him.

To say that the stones aren't the stones anymore just because Taylor left is an overstatement. He was their best guitarist but a think Ronnie was the perfect replacement. His vintage sound adapted perfect with Some Girls, Tatto You and so on. And actually I think their later studio efforts is very underrated. Especially the last three. But of course there is times when you miss Taylor's beautiful tone..

Mick Taylor couldn't stand the Ego's.. Mick and Keith. He co-wrote songs that he was never given credit for.. Wouldn't you leave then too? He was with the band when they were at their best.. They asked him not to leave. Asked him to take 6 months off. But by that time he was done..

Taylor left because he was bored of this band and because they dont credited him on record ...
  16. Tapiola2007, at 12/18/2011 10:29, says:
Wrong, douche! Everything I said is a matter of public record and has been confirmed by every member of the band in one way or another.

No, Mick Taylor left The Stones because when he joined up in 1969 he was a tee-total vegetarian with a very healthy lifestyle and happy relationship. By 1974 he was hooked on heroin and fucking his life up. It's also possible he felt underappreciated within the band - although publicly he denies that. When Taylor left the band his virtuoisity was never replaced. Ronnie Wood is no Mick Taylor and despite his great work for The Faces Woody was relegated to second chair.

If not for Mick Taylor I would have passed the Stones by. It was his sound that sucked me in at 14.

mt said the craziness of it made him want to get out of the spin. Not getting ANY writing credits in CYHMK,exile tunes, goats head soups tunes, etc. made him realize he was still a temporary hired hand. I have seen/heard bad, horrible, not so good stones live since 75(love ya live did not sell like ya's-ya's,etc).BUT have never heard a tune by MT that people did not stop and look/listen.This youtube montage u hear MJ call his name on bootleg. On L & G The RS it is "play guitar ...BOY!
