How to Shoot a Basketball

In today's video, Coach Tom explains the "Monster Rebound Drill," which will develop an aggressive ATTACK when rebounding from anywhere on the floor! This drill will not only give you the "muscle memory" to make attacking rebounds second nature, it will also make you be able to read where rebounds are going and how to get to them from anywhere on the floor.

The simple answer here is to "spend time working on that hand!" Too often we avoid doing things that we cannot do well and therefore that element never improves. "Spend the time working on that hand!"

Keep these things in mind: 1. Balls shot with flat arc will usually rebound "long!" 2. High arc shots will tend to bound up near the basket. 3. Shots from the wing and baseline will tend to rebound to the opposite side of the basket at about 65-70% of the time. Hope this helps.

im a very good rebounder and can get any rebounder from even when someone else is trying too but sometimes when im standing near the basket any mt teammate shoots and misses it goes the other way. how can i read rebounds?

I do it that way and it works pretty well is what I meant to say there.

Make sure you are balanced and stable on take off and shoot when you are square to the hoop while fading is the best way, I do it. He is right its much lower in percentage then a jumper, but if you have to use it make sure you fade in a controlled manner instead of wildly jumping.

We will be doing this one in the near future even though we feel it is a low percentage shot!

Stay under the rim, you wont need to worry about shooting. Just hit it off the backboard and you'll never miss.

Totally agree, but we still have to have those players who will go det the ball!!!! That's what this video is all about.

You might disagree on this or you might not but here is my suggestion. I played post for a long time and any time I knew that we needed to make sure someone didn't dominate us on the boards here is what I did: Forget about getting the board. Focus only on boxing him out and not allowing hims to get the rebound. He can't jump over you. That is a foul. Clear him out of there and trust one of your teammates to get the rebound. It always worked for me. Hopefully this helps.

We had to place the App on hold for a while until we could find the right person to construct it. Looks like he will get going again around the first of April. Learn to read the rebound as it is in the air. Clue: If the shot is flat it usually will be a long rebound; If the shot has a high arc it will stay around the basket; If the ball is shot form the wing or baseline there is a 60% or better chance the ball will go to the opposite side of the court on the rebound!

That's the problem. Even when going in aggressively and jumping as high as I can, he's always there, getting the ball. Are there other tricks to getting the ball, besides boxing out, or going in aggressively? I was thinking more along the lines of where to position yourself or something like that. Also, weren't you guys releasing an app?

This rebounding drill is a good place to start!

I've been experiencing a problem. Every saturday I've been playing with some seniors from my high-school but on of them is extremely tall and buff, and keeps getting all the rebounds. I tried boxing him out before but he is simply too strong and heavy. He is a skilled player besides. He tends to dominate the game with those rebounds and I thought maybe you could help me stop him from getting those rebounds.

Probably a little difficult at the DI level, but could fit in pretty well in the D III or NAIA programs.
