Good point -- 3D movies were all the rage in the 50s!

well 3D was extremely popular at this time, they probably didn't even think about the possibility of 3D being made on TV's. Color TV's were available, but they were still too expensive to be made available to the publc

Very true. They were really thinking ahead to say "3D" rather than "color." I'm sure the idea of 3D TV seemed really outlandish to the writers and something not likely to EVER happen!

It wouldn't have been as funny had he said 'color'. This clip is from 1955. The RCA no moving parts color format was approved in 1953. It wasn't untill 1966 that all new shows were in color.

Looks like poor Alice is finally getting a TV in the year 2011 . Ralph ya cheap schmuck, never saw this one coming did ya Ralph. Yet another scheme backfires on Ralph and we all love ya for it.

At the time this show was made, television was fairly new and there were still people who didn't have one, just as there are still people who don't have computers today. At the same time, the new thing in the movie theatres, which were 20 years ahead of TV, was 3-D movies. And now, apparently, there is 3-D TV being made available. In a sense Ralph Kramden was 60 years ahead of his time.

Exactly -- that would have to be some kind of magic TV, wouldn't it?!
