IMAX (short for Image MAXimum) is a motion picture film format and projection standard created by Canada's IMAX Corporation. The traditional version of IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. A standard IMAX screen is 22 metres (72 ft) wide and 16.1 metres (53 ft) high, but can vary. The world's largest cinema screen and IMAX screen is in the LG IMAX theatre in Darling Harbour, Sydney. It is 29.42m (approximately 8 stories) high by 35.73m wide — covering an area of more than 1,015 square metres. IMAX is the most widely used system for large-format, special-venue film presentations. As of April 2009, there are 320 IMAX theatres in 42 countries, with about half of these located in the United States. About 60% of IMAX venues are commercial theatres with the other 40% being located in educational venues.

    I'm pretty sure someone who works for IMAX gave the approximate IMAX resolution as 6120x4500 (hence my comment about IMAX Digital projectors needing to be 6K in order to catch up to the 15/70 IMAX experience).

    well.... actually the resolution of IMAX is about 18k.. but most of the postproduction is done in 8K. So if we want to replace film we wood need at least two 8k projektors (one for the right the other for the left eye)

    Yeah... if IMAX even wants to catch up, they need to use 6K projectors at the very least (not that I mind the current 2K projectors as long as the big screen and surround sound combine effectively enough).

    You are wrong. My bluray player has a YouTube app that allows me to use YouTube on my 42"inch 3DTV. I watch YouTube videos in Real 3D "Stereoscopic" all the time. The video here is not in 3D but there are a ton of 3D videos on YouTube that are. You just need the right hardware to watch it.

    I always watch movies in IMAX because the screen is really huge, the images are crystal clear, epic sounds that makes you feel like your in the movie! And the intro is so AWESOME in 3D! When there's a movie in 3D IMAX! I never go to the digital because it sucks and its very not clear! IMAX RULES!!!!! ;D
