Ah ok great, I see by Camera's you mean professional HD video cameras. When I read camera I instantly think of photograph, hence the confusion.

Most cameras that are really high quality use multiple CCDs, usually three(one for red, blue, and green), or several spread out in a grid to increase the total resolution. The thing that makes this chip remarkable is that it has the most resolution on one sensor ever made(at the time).

Pardon my ignorance but with exception to high end video camera's don't most Camera's have one CCD? Even ones approaching or above the 33mp.

Nokia Pureview 808 has a 42mp sensor (interpolated). However, in practice its not much better than an 8mp sensor on say a Galaxy SIII especially in now light.

This is a 33MP video sensor on one CCD.

Actually, Hubble has about 20MP total resolution spread across all of its sensors. Its most high resolution sensor is made of two 8MP CCDs, but some of its other sensors have resolutions as low as 128x128.

This ain't shit. Just look at telescope sensors in space like Hubble... For decades they've had not MEGA pixels, but PETAPIXELS!!!!

nokia pureview already got 41 megapix, but ppl will notice it 10 years frm now wen apple launches it XD

Can't wait to see people struggling to take good pictures with their 33MP cell phone cameras (with a sensor at the size of an atom) while I take better pictures with a potato without hesitation.

Well, if you're shooting that 33MP with a 1/4" sensor you'll have a nice very blurry and very grainy 33MP image that won't show any significantly better detail of their nose hair. Whereas a full-frame 35mm DSLR at 12MP will show pretty much all you want to see and more. Simply because a larger sensor catches more light. Google "megapixel vs sensor size" and look for comparison samples, you'll get it.

I'm a little confuse. So you say the clarity of a picture depends on the size of the sensor ? And the MP count is for the actual digital size. Well I was thinking making a picture of someones face with a 1MP camera wont reveal so much detail "inside their nose" because when you zoom in obviously the pixels are not enough. But with that huge 33MP, you can zoom in on the picture very much until the same problem happens, but much later.
  13. intigfx, at 06/03/2011 15:11, says:
The size of the sensor is more important for detail than the MP count. You could have a bazillion MP, the pictures will still be shitty if the sensor is the size of an iPhone's.

Most people have problem using any tehnology at all. Seriously , there must be a tehnology diploma.... Some people and mostly parents have problem using a small simple mobile which is already translated in their language...

Why don't we first educate people on how to use a 1MP camera instead of giving them the power to fill up hard drives and data centers with crap.
